A new addiction has been made to the Anastasia‘s permanent makeup line! We’re talking about highlighters, the Illuminators!
On the Anastasia Beverly Hills online store they’re described like this:
Like a filter for your complexion, this brush-on highlighter contains a mosaic of brightening powders that impart a lit-from-within glow. The mirrored compact makes on-the-go touchups easy and fail-safe.
The Illuminators are shimmery (almost metallic when overapplied) pressed powder highlighters that come in four different shades:
– Starlight White Gold
– So Hollywood True Gold
– Riviera Pink Gold
– Peach Nector Apricot Gold
Even though they’re all described as shades of gold, they’re definitely not all warm toned.
Starlight is described as a white gold and it’s the lightest and more neutral one of them all. It’s also the less saturated one and looks like a neutral silver . Starlight is very pigmented and it’s a gorgeous shade for a pale or fair skin and looks very nice on medium skin tones too, but i woudn’t definitely recommend it to very warm or dark complexions (it may look a bit grey and it woudn’t blend that well into the skin). Just to compare it and let you understand, it’s lighter and colder than the Balm’s Mary Lou Manizer or Becca’s Moonstone.
- So Hollywood is described as a true gold. It is probably the most versatile and popular one them all (it has been used on celebrities like Kim Kardashian). It’s a very pigmented muted gold with a slightly warm undertone. Becca’s Opal is darker, Champagne Pop is a tiny bit darker and warmer and MAC’s Whisper of Gilt is darker and warmer.
- Riviera is described as a pink gold, but it looks more like a very light orchid with a silver undertone. It looks amazing when lightly blended with a blusher. As Starlight it’s lovely on fair and medium skin tones, but i woudn’t recommend it to very warm or dark complexions (it may look a bit grey and it woudn’t blend that well into the skin). Cindy Lou Manizer by the Balm is a light pink gold and, if you compare it to Riviera, you’ll see that Riviera looks definitely more metallic, colder and darker. MAC’s Superb Extradimension Skinfinish Higlighter is warmer and darker.
- Peach Nectar is described as an apricot gold and it’s, without a doubt, the most saturated one. It’s a warm light peach shade that provides that Jlo’s peachy glow. it can almost look like a bronzer or a warm blusher on fair skins (but, i wouldn’t really recommend that, because of the shimmer). It’s definitely more suitable for medium to dark complexions. I think it would look amazing combined with MAC’s Give Me Sun.Betty Lou Manizer by the Balm is warmer and darker, MAC’s Gold Deposit is darker and warmer and MAC’s Cheeky Bronze is slightly pinker and lighter.
Is it a Good Product?
I would recommend it, because you can obtain a fresh natural look or a bold, celebrity-like one, if you’re into it. It’s really pigmented and longlasting (you can go to work at 8 a.m. and come back at 4 p.m. and still be happy with the result). It’s versatile, because you can use them dry or wet (and blend beautifully into the skin with a beauty blender or miracle complexion spong) or as eyeshadows. Texture is buttery and shimmery, almost metallic when wet or overapplied. They diffuse “light” beautifully, if you pick the right shade for you.
In general, they don’t really make pores stand out. It’s obvious that highlighters can accentuate imperfections on the skin, but the Illuminators don’t make them worse or even more visible.
Illuminators come in a black, sleek and minimal compact with Anastasia’s rose-gold logo in the front, resulting very elegant. Inside it’s provided with a mirror.
